What is myotherapy?
Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment and management of muscular and joint conditions. These conditions may cause muscular dysfunction.  You would recognize this by pain affecting movement and mobility in your everyday activities or specific exercise you may do.

What does a Myotherapist do?
A Myotherapy consultation will typically commence with thorough history taking followed by the necessary muscle, joint and neurological testing for your condition.  Combined with manual palpation of muscles and joints, a Myotherapist aims to identify the cause of your complaint, treat the pain, and minimize the likelihood of the injury reoccurring by strengthening and stabilizing the area.

What conditions can a Myotherapist treat?
Myotherapists treat the cause as well as the symptoms of a wide range of conditions.

This can include:

  • Neck & back pain
  • Headaches/ Migraines
  • Sciatica
  • Chronic overuse (RSI)
  • Postural problems
  • Joint pains (frozen shoulder; tennis elbow; etc)
  • Numbness and tingling
  • General tightness

What treatment techniques does a Myotherapist use?

Myotherapists use various soft tissue massage and manipulation techniques together with dry needling, cupping, stretching and corrective exercises.  All modalities are used with the intention to restore and maintain the normal integrity of soft tissue structures.

When should I see a Myotherapist?
Myotherapy can be used to treat the above conditions but also for prevention of injuries and maintenance of an improved quality of life.  You should see a Myotherapist when your pain is persistent or when you are suffering from reduced range of movement.

Is treatment claimable through health insurance?
Patient should check with their private health insurance if they are covered for Myotherapy with extras cover.  Some health funds can also be claimed on the spot with Hicaps.
